The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, signed this Monday, November 18, the order mandating the municipal legal advice of the Arrecife City Council to exercise the Private Prosecution against the 40-year-old male, whom the National Police accredits as the material author of "damages for the burning of 15 containers and three vehicles and for 15 car thefts", registered last October in the capital of Lanzarote.
As has been disclosed, the National Police has arrested in Arrecife a man with multiple police records, and who had recently been released from prison, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage for the burning of 15 containers and three vehicles and for 15 car thefts. This man, after being brought to justice, has already returned to prison.
This detainee, supposedly, caused a series of fires that affected 15 containers for the selective collection of different types of waste, as well as the damage caused to three vehicles in the Altavista neighborhood, during the early morning of October 28.
Mayor Yonathan de León wishes, with this action, that the author, when he has a final judicial sentence, can respond with his current or future assets, to the total amount of the damages caused to the public assets of the city.
The legal advice, which, with this new judicial case, are two that are filed as Private Prosecution during the mandate of Yonathan de León as mayor of Arrecife, is directly attached to the Mayor's Office of Arrecife.

Last May, the mayor also urged the Legal Advice to take legal action against the so-called 'arsonist of Arrecife'. In an appearance that took place on May 7, the lawyer of the municipal Legal Advice provided the documentation where she certified the public damages and demands the claim of 58,254.10 euros in respect of urban furniture and burned containers, among other public elements. Arrecife already exercises the Private Prosecution in that judicial procedure.
Yonathan de León has stressed that as mayor he will continue to defend public assets, and warns uncivil people, who may cause severe damage in the city, that the City Council will adopt judicial measures so that the culprits compensate with their assets the damage caused.
The mayor congratulates the National Police Force for this new arrest, and informs the citizens that the state security forces, including the Local Police of Arrecife, have several lines of investigation to find the perpetrators of the incidents that are recorded, intentionally, in the city.
