The Arrecife City Council will carry out a study to update the fares of auto taxis in the capital of Lanzarote, given the high costs that have been recorded in recent years and that have affected transport systems in Spain. The capital of Lanzarote currently has one of the lowest rates among the more than 8,000 municipalities in Spain.

In the meeting held this Tuesday by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, with the taxi sector group, the license holders stated that "with the current rates, it is difficult for vehicles to work many days of the week as they do not cover their costs associated with these services." In response to this request from taxi professionals, the Arrecife City Council will commission a study to determine the update of rates.

In this meeting, promoted by the mayor Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Transport and Mobility, it was ratified that the Municipal Government of Arrecife will submit to the plenary session this September, which will take place at the end of this month, the agreement to initiate the update of the aforementioned rates. A final approval that will correspond, after the plenary procedure, to the Territorial Price Commission in the province of Las Palmas.

Yonathan de León explained to the assembly of taxi drivers, in which the president of the San Marcial de Arrecife Cooperative, Manuel Guillén, was present, that the City Council has been working jointly with this sector to solve the problems that affect taxi users, which are known to the citizens of Lanzarote. Problems that affect the group and affect the service offered to citizens.

Approved the establishment of a shift in the stops of the neighborhoods and the city center on cruise days

The mayor proposed to the taxi drivers to agree on a system that guarantees the presence of taxis at the stops in the neighborhoods and the center of Arrecife, coinciding with the days of cruise calls, to guarantee the citizen mobility of local residents in the public taxi service in the capital of Lanzarote.

Submitted this issue to a vote, by a large majority, the taxi drivers approved that the Department of Transport and Mobility arbitrate a shift system to ensure that these stops and services, intended for residents, are always covered on cruise call days.

As is known, the cruise season takes place in the Canary Islands between the months of September and May, where the capital of Lanzarote has a strategic port specialized in cruise tourism.

Yonathan de León, and Mario González Altube, will continue to hold future meetings with the taxi sector, as an extension of the several held in this first year of mandate, tending to resolve the problems of the public taxi service in Arrecife.
