Two unions have presented a pre-notice of indefinite strike in the company Arrecife Bus starting next April 3. Comisiones Obreras and Intersindical Canaria have announced these stoppages in the island's intercity transport services, coinciding with the start of Holy Week. The company employs 120 people, through a concession from the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
In a statement, both union forces have reported that the strike responds "to the company's refusal to meet their wage demands and organization of the working day and rest times" in the negotiations they have been holding since last November to renew the collective agreement.
The unions point out that there has been little progress in the various matters, as well as the "significant precariousness" in which the service is being provided and the loss of purchasing power suffered by workers in recent years.
They also complain that the company constantly alters the organization of working hours, does not take into account days off and rest times, and forces workers to travel from different points on the island without paying for allowances or fuel costs.
Both unions also denounce the precarious hiring of workers, which contradicts the specifications of the Lanzarote Cabildo service. The strike will affect all the company's services, the note emphasizes.
