The Arrecife City Council will request the Social Marine Institute to proceed with the transfer of ownership of about seventy homes in the Valterra fishing district "to those who have been their legitimate users and residents in recent decades."

The mayoress of Arrecife, Ástrid Párez, declared this Thursday that, with the constitution of the General Courts this week, and the inauguration of the Government, measures can now be arbitrated so that the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security - where the Social Marine Institute is attached - proceeds to the transfer of the registration ownership of the homes, after a process between several canning industries and this state public entity.

The mayoress pointed out that it is the ISM that "can and should" directly transfer the ownership of these houses to their tenants or descendants in recent decades in the Land Registry.

The group of 200 homes in Valterra, among which are those that were completed by the canning companies, was built in the late 1950s of the last century to house seafaring families from Arrecife.

Asier Antona commits to bringing an initiative to the Senate

The Senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Asier Antona, made an institutional visit to the Arrecife City Council this Thursday where he held a meeting with the mayoress. In this meeting, where the PP spokesperson and Councilor for Social Services and Housing in Arrecife, María Jesús Tovar, was also present, it was proposed that through Antona's mediation, the Central Government could arbitrate the legal channel to be able to register these Valterra homes in the name of their tenants.

The senator pledged to make a proposal in this regard starting next Monday, in the Upper House, to ensure that the Government, from the Social Marine Institute, agrees to this request from the capital's City Council.

ARUS of Valterra and Titerroy

Similarly, the mayoress asked Asier Antona to arbitrate the way to ensure that, in the next new agreement to be signed between the Central Government and the Government of the Canary Islands on housing matters, priority is given to the ARUS of Valterra and Titerrory, within the national programs for the renovation of social housing built in the 50s and 60s of the last century. In this regard, Ástrid Pérez recalled that in a previous agreement, a financial file was achieved, but that the previous municipal governments did not implement these plans and the money was reimbursed

In the meeting this Thursday, held at the Mayor's Office, the vice president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Councilor for Public Works and Projects, Jacobo Medina, and several councilors from the government group were also present. The senator showed his support for these demands from Arrecife and highlighted his commitment to carry out the necessary initiatives to achieve the municipal objectives for these residents of the two historic neighborhoods of the capital of Lanzarote.

Astrid Pérez thanked Asier Antona for his visit and expressed her satisfaction at being able to count "on his valuable help and cooperation as a mediator before the Central Government at the beginning of a new legislative period where housing, and other public issues, are among the priorities of the residents and the municipal government."
