The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, was this Monday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to answer some questions, among them the idea of giving private companies the 200 social houses pending construction in Maneje.
Regarding this, de León said that "perhaps it was not understood what I meant and there were people who did not understand it well." In this sense, he explained that "the intention is that the land would revert to the Arrecife City Council, take it out in surface right so that companies build the houses and then, they are made available to people with low economic resources, it does not mean that they are going to exploit them".
Also, the mayor has continued saying that "as a result of this news, I received a call from Visocan where they gave me the good news that probably next month the drafting of the project for the other 200 houses will be put out to tender in the neighborhood of Maneje, so in the next two years we will have nearly 600 houses under construction in Arrecife".
Also, de León has revealed that he has had meetings with landowners in the capital and that "they are going to take advantage of the Housing Decree of the Government of the Canary Islands and they will be given free rein to build another 150 houses located in the same area".
On the other hand, he pointed out that "it is important that construction continues so that the problem we have with rents is reduced or tried to be solved".
