Last Saturday afternoon, with the presence of about 300 people, it took place
in Lanzarote a demonstration called by the CANARY WORKERS' UNION
(FSOC) and ALEA (LANZAROTE IN ACTION ASSOCIATION) demanding measures
urgent against the high cost of living in Lanzarote. The FSOC, with the
presence of its National Secretary, Manuel Mederos and the Island Secretary
of El Hierro, Domingo Martín, demanded the immediate creation of a market
supply in the island, as well as the suppression of the REA and the RIC, instruments
fiscal that have not favored the pockets of families at all. All of it
on the contrary, the REA, instead of lowering the shopping basket, has
increased it. Lanzarote and El Hierro have the most expensive baskets of
all Canary Islands.
