The socialist spokesperson in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has reproached Oswaldo Betancort for his insistence on "earning more than the President of the Government of Spain" and has lamented "the farce starred by the president during the plenary session" held this Tuesday, in which he has "been forced by social pressure to withdraw the items related to the remuneration of the councilors from the agenda", she adds.
González has shown her "incredulity at the decision" adopted by Oswaldo Betancort, who has not found another way out than the occurrence of calling "a popular consultation" so that the citizens determine his salary.
"No popular consultation is needed." Put yourself on the same salary as the previous president, with a reasonable increase, and you will not have to complain about the criticism received in the street and in all the national press", González has proposed, before Oswaldo Betancort's complaint that his salary has become a reason for debate throughout Spain.
The councilor has recalled that the previous president, María Dolores Corujo, raised her salary by 6.38%, while the increase that the current president intended to approve amounts to 26,000 euros, which represents an increase of 38.66%.
"This excessive increase would place Oswaldo Betancort's salary at 92,928 euros and would exceed the salary of the President of the Government of Spain by 3,000 euros", the party acknowledges.
Since that data was known, the social pressure and the barrage of negative news in all the national press has been constant, so Ariagona González has wondered "if this abusive attempt to raise salaries, which has been criticized by all the national press, and the popular consultation, which will undoubtedly be again, are part of the defense of the image of Lanzarote."
