The spokesperson for the Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT), Antonio Morales, assures that residents of the coastal area of La Cañada were without running water for the entire last weekend, and that when contacting Canal Gestión Lanzarote, they confirmed that they had received instructions from the mayor of Tinajo for that water to be diverted to Dolores for the festivities.
“We initially thought it might be a mistake, but Canal Gestión assured us that it had been diverted to Dolores at the request of Jesús Machín, it's unbelievable”, says the leader of MRT, who denounces that the residents spent three days without water.
However, the mayor of Tinajo considers the councilor's strategy to be “demagogic”, although he acknowledges that water was diverted for one day. “These are false statements. That area was only without water on the day the festivities started, because we have always tried to divert water without excessively affecting the residents”, the mayor has admitted. In addition, he acknowledges that he received a call on Saturday from a resident who had suffered “a temporary cut”, which was resolved on the same day.
“Morales diverted water to Dolores for several days”
Morales, on the other hand, also criticized that the water cuts had not been communicated to the residents, to which the mayor responds that “Canal Gestión Lanzarote is responsible for the cuts, since unfortunately there is no water every day in all areas of Tinajo”.
In addition, he has assured that this has been happening for years and that it was even worse when Antonio Morales himself governed with him. “I decided to change the strategy some time ago, because it was Antonio Morales, being a councilor in the government, who diverted the water for several days”, the mayor states, while the councilor maintains that before, residents were given a response by bringing water tanks.
Machín believes that Antonio Morales is not being loyal with this issue, since he insists that he “knows it perfectly” after his time as a councilor. “He is playing demagoguery and deceiving the residents”, the mayor maintains.
