Given the arrival of storm Olivier to the Canary Islands, which will affect the archipelago starting this coming early morning, the town councils of Lanzarote have decided to suspend outdoor activities planned for this Wednesday in both municipalities.
On the one hand, the Yaiza Town Council has announced that, in view of the declaration of alert by the Government of the Canary Islands for heavy rains and the activation of the Island Emergency Plan by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Council has decreed the suspension of all recreational, sports, educational and cultural activities that may be held in this municipality outdoors from 00:00 hours this Wednesday, April 9, until the end of the alert.
The Institution warns that, without prejudice to the agreed suspension, the population is recommended to avoid, as far as possible, any type of recreational activity in open spaces and avoid unnecessary travel.
For its part, the San Bartolomé Town Council will also suspend any outdoor activity from 00:00 hours tonight. In addition, they indicate that "depending on the evolution of these phenomena, the convenience of adopting other types of measures at the municipal level will be studied".
Arrecife, in addition to suspending outdoor activities, has activated the PEMU (Municipal Emergency Plan) from 7:00 p.m. this Tuesday.
Finally, Tinajo, Haría, Tías and Teguise have also decreed the suspension of recreational, sports and cultural activities outdoors in the municipalities starting on Wednesday, April 9, from 6:00 a.m. until the pre-alert is lifted.
