Alfredo Villalba: I am not going to enter any of the island directorates of the Cabildo de Lanzarote

“I am not going to enter any of the island directorates of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.” The PSOE councilor in the Haría City Council, Alfredo Villalba, denied this Wednesday morning, in statements to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, the rumors that pointed to his entry into the Corporation together with José Brito; a proposal that even had the support of the Island Executive.

“I am not going to become part of or be an accomplice to what is happening at this time in the Cabildo,” said the socialist councilor, explaining that, from his point of view, in the Corporation “the PSOE is playing a totally secondary role and overshadowed by the arrogance and arrogance of the president of the Cabildo.”

In addition, he pointed out that he will not do so “much less, at this time, when I do not want to be involved in any type of conflict of interest in the defense of what I was really elected for and for what the PSOE voters of Haría elected me, which is to exclusively defend the interests of the municipality”; thus referring to the lawsuit between the Cabildo and the Haría City Council over the Cueva de Los Verdes.

“I asked that if any type of appointment was going to be made, it would go through the Executive”, Villalba explained, and that, for that reason, it was approved in it “so that, in this case, I would be one of those who would be part of the group of advisors or accompaniment to the PSOE colleagues”. However, the socialist councilor has assured that he has already conveyed his decision to reject this initiative to both the island secretary, Dolores Corujo, and his group. He has also taken the opportunity to thank Corujo “enormously for her support for this appointment.”

"You can't govern at any price"

“Of course, when one participates in politics, one participates to govern, obviously, but one cannot govern at any price,” said the socialist councilor, pointing out that he “would have liked to be part of, to be in the Government” and that “it would be a lie if I didn't affirm that”. “But of course not at any price and obviously when there is a conflict of interest,” he added.

“I want to focus on the opposition, in which I have said that we are going to be during these two years,” Villalba pointed out. “We may not be used to hearing that someone who can be in a government group rejects it, but well, I am a bit like that, I see politics from another perspective and I believe that it is necessary to defend a series of values and thoughts above occupying any position,” concluded the socialist councilor in the Haría City Council.
