Arrecife will experience this Saturday and Sunday one of its most crowded weekends in memory. The closing of the celebration of the San Ginés patron saint festivities with two great concerts, and the night of fireworks means that the Arrecife City Council is reinforcing security in the capital of Lanzarote, especially in the perimeter of its maritime front, from El Reducto Beach to the area of the stalls, next to the historic Puente de las Bolas.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Local Police, presided this Friday over a coordination meeting with those responsible for the security plans for these festivities, and the participation of representatives of the Security Forces and Corps, as well as the Civil Protection, Security and Emergencies Consortium, and the health support and ambulance team. Personnel from the Mobility, Public Works and Festivities Areas also participated in this meeting.
From the Departments of Public Works and Mobility, respectively, the preventive closures and cuts of the streets will be made, following the preventive indications of the Security Plan.
Deployment of 60 agents
The mayor has announced that during this weekend the security of Arrecife will be assisted by a large deployment of 60 police officers, belonging to the Local Police and National Police corps, as well as agents of the Civil Guard Traffic, who will supervise access to the capital from the roads of island scope, such as LZ I and LZ II.
In addition to these agents, security will be reinforced by Civil Protection personnel, under the direction of the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Kevin Cortés, plus the assistance support of the health team and the Security and Emergencies Consortium of Lanzarote, led by the island councilor Kiko Aparicio.
Premiere of mobile devices and security video cameras in the Sangineles
These San Ginés festivities will have two technological systems that the Arrecife City Council has incorporated in recent months: video cameras, and mobile real-time identification devices, connected to police databases. Technological tools that the Local Police has incorporated during this first year of the Municipal Government led by Mayor Yonathan de León. One of the great utilities of these mobile devices, in addition to reading license plates and knowing the vehicle's file before the DGT, accesses the databases where restraining orders are registered against people who have suffered harassment or are victims of crimes.
From the air, the Local Police Drone Unit will monitor security by sharing real-time images of the thousands of attendees expected to attend the closing of the San Ginés patron saint festivities, which in 2024 commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife.
