The founder of Naviera Armas is now among the illustrious sons of the Historic City of Yaiza

The Yaiza City Council has expressed its regret for the death of the president of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea, Antonio Armas Fernández, conveying its "sincere condolences to his family, management team and company personnel."

"I had the opportunity to meet him and deal with him on the occasion of the commemoration last year of Yaiza Historical City, proving to be a very close person with a great sense of roots and love for the Canary Islands. It is very sad news that moves our municipality of Yaiza, the land where his father, founder and mentor of the Naviera, was born,” said the mayor, Óscar Noda.

Antonio Armas Fernández received the Gold Medal last October from the mayor of Yaiza, posthumously, to Don Antonio Armas Curbelo, born and bred in Yaiza, who was the creator of Naviera Armas 80 years ago and promoter of the development of a company that since then "set the ambitious and exciting goal of uniting the fragmented Canarian territory by sea."

Armas Fernández took over from his father and led the development and expansion of the company since 1968, being responsible for the company's growth for 50 years, although he always personified the success of the Naviera in the figure of his father. "Everything has been thanks to that person who started the company, the merit is in who started it and not in any of us, who have tried to follow and grow,” he highlighted during the tribute in Yaiza.
