Berlin (2023), the prequel to La Casa de Papel, premiered in the last days of 2023 on Netflix. This spin off arrived on the small screen after the series that brought together The Professor and his group of thieves with city names became a global success.
With the birth of Berlin as a super production, the Lanzarote native Joel Sánchez has also taken his first steps in the world of cinema, who shares the screen with Pedro Alonso (Berlin), Tristán Ulloa (Damián), Michelle Jenner (Keila) or Begoña Vargas (Cameron).
With training as an engineer and model, the Lanzarote native gave an interview with GQ magazine to explain what it has been like for him to go from modeling to streaming platforms. During this talk, Joel Sánchez said that the casting directors, Eva Leira and Yolanda Serrano contacted him through the announcement of a modeling agency. After that, he went through filters until he got the role.
Joel Sánchez embodies the character of Bruce, one of the thieves who follow the guidelines of the gang leader, Berlin and who shows a rogue personality. This new production comes from the hand of the creators Esther Martínez and Álex Pina, also authors of El Embarcadero, Vis a Vis, La Casa de Papel or Sky Rojo, among others.
"Bruce has quite a few things from Joel, and in that sense there are things that already come out organic, because we are very similar," he said in the aforementioned interview.
The Berlin series has been a hit on Netlix and has positioned itself as the first of the ten most popular series in Spain even eleven days after the premiere.
