These days you could see three flamingos enjoying the waters in the Salinas de Janubio in the municipality of Yaiza. Some images that were captured by Daniel Bethencourt.
It might seem strange, but as the newspaper La Provincia recalls, the Salinas de Janubio and its surroundings, such as the seawater lagoon, were classified in 1994 as a Site of Scientific Interest and up to 70 species of migratory birds have been cataloged in the area, which take advantage of the salt flats to rest and feed, which has led to the protection of the area as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), recalls the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote.
In addition to the pink flamingos, you can see in Janubio plovers, shelducks, the common stilt, the trumpeter bullfinch, the Bulwer's Petrel and the Berthelot's Pipit, among other birds.
