The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has reported the restoration of the electricity supply after the energy blackout registered during the early hours of this Saturday and maintains its services active in the face of possible incidents derived from this episode.
Sources from Agua de Lanzarote have informed La Voz that at 8:30 a.m. there were outages in several municipalities on the island. For example, in Teguise, almost the entire supply was shut off, with the exception of Costa Teguise and Mozaga; in Tías, the entire supply was also shut off except for Puerto del Carmen; in Tinajo, the suspensions were those scheduled for this Saturday; in Arrecife, there were several neighborhoods without supply, and in Haría, it was also completely shut off.
Given this situation, the island institution has declared the Lanzarote Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) in a state of pre-alert due to affectation of basic supplies, with the objective of maintaining coordination and monitoring possible effects on essential services.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that "from the very first hour we have been monitoring the evolution of the situation and the possible effects on essential services. Although the electricity supply has been restored, we are keeping our services active and the PEIN on pre-alert to attend to any incident that may occur."
For his part, the president of the Security and Emergencies Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, assures that since the energy blackout occurred, "the firefighters from both stations have been at the service of possible incidents." "So far, only one incident has been detected in an elevator due to the power outage. However, we remain on alert for any consequences caused by this period without energy," he explains.
The energy blackout occurred around 05:44 hours and affected Lanzarote, with the exception of Playa Blanca, which maintained its electricity supply due to its connection with Fuerteventura. The incident affected approximately 73,600 customers.
According to the technical information provided to the Cabildo, the incident originated at the Mácher station, due to an issue related to a mesh in the electrical system, with the episode starting from the 132 kV line. From there, subsequent effects occurred on the electrical grid.
The Government of the Canary Islands also declared the pre-alert situation of the PLATECA due to affectation to basic supplies, for the purpose of monitoring the evolution of the incidence, coordination between the administrations and involved organizations, and the assessment of possible affectations to essential services.
Betancort thanks the work carried out during these hours by the emergency services, security forces, technicians, and professionals who have intervened and asks the population to remain attentive to the communications made through official channels.
Possible affectations to water supply
The Cabildo also informs that the electrical incidence may cause affectations in the water supply at different points in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, due to the energy dependence of the facilities linked to production, pumping, and distribution.
Citizens are recommended to use water responsibly while the operation of the facilities is completely normalized and to consult the updates published through the official channels.
