Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa has reported this Saturday morning that the energy blackout suffered on the island and which left more than 76,300 customers without supply has also caused the shutdown of the desalination plants and, consequently, the interruption of drinking water production.

Given this situation, Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa have announced that the service teams are carrying out maneuvers in the distribution network in different areas of both islands to preserve available reserves and manage stored resources while production capacity is recovered.

As a consequence of these operations, throughout this Saturday there may be temporary supply interruptions, pressure drops or other effects in different towns. However, the public entity does not specify which towns will be affected.

The recovery of the electricity supply does not mean the immediate recovery of water production. The desalination plants require the corresponding start-up and stabilization operations before progressively recovering their usual production capacity.

The teams of Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa are working to restore production and normalize supply as soon as possible, currently prioritizing the conservation of available reserves.

Due to the unforeseen nature of this incident and the evolution of the maneuvers being carried out in the network, the calendar of scheduled suspensions published for this Saturday does not reflect the effects that may occur during the day.

"The population is recommended to make responsible use of water and avoid non-essential consumption while this situation persists," highlights Aguas de Lanzarote in a statement.
