Last Thursday, October 27, the UNED celebrated the opening ceremony of the new academic year 22/23 at its headquarters in Arrecife, a very special year since the distance university is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.

The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo, Alberto Aguiar, presided over the event and was accompanied by the Director of the Center, Andrés Martín, and the Professor of Prehistory at the University of La Laguna (ULL), María del Carmen Del Arco Aguilar. Martín commented on the projects of this course focused on the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary.

María del Carmen Del Arco offered an extraordinary inaugural lesson entitled "Sailing against the current. The Roman presence in the Canary Islands from the purple workshop of Lobos" that dealt with the Roman settlement on the Island of Lobos, as well as other possible sites with archaeological interest in Lanzarote and other islands of our archipelago.

Finally, diplomas were awarded to 16 students who completed their undergraduate studies last year and to another six who completed their master's degrees. "The diplomas are the recognition that the UNED gives to the effort and sacrifice of its students, a sacrifice that is not only individual, family support is essential to not decline during a long career," they point out from the Center.
