The tent to assist migrant minors in the port of Arrecife is finished and pending allocation for its launch, said this Tuesday the Minister of Social Rights, Candelaria Delgado, who added that this type of facilities "are for children to be there for a few days."
The Canary Islands Prosecutor's Office already warned that it "will not allow" migrant minors to remain in these tents in the ports "as if they were homes for children."
Candelaria Delgado, Minister of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth, has stated that the use of the tents will depend on the number of arrivals of unaccompanied minors, and they are for a few days, while adaptations are made in the centers where they are hosted.
She recalled that last Sunday 55 minors arrived in Gran Canaria, of which 20 have been made available to the General Directorate of the Family, and the Minister commented that due to the saturation in the centers actions have been taken in some to increase their capacity.
Thus, study rooms have been removed and some spaces have been made versatile, explained Candelaria Delgado, who acknowledged that "obviously" the decree is not complied with, according to which there should only be 20 unaccompanied minors per center.
Therefore, she insisted that agreements must be reached for their transfer to other autonomous communities or European territories.
The Minister pointed out that last year some days up to 100 unaccompanied minors arrived, and we must be prepared for the possibility that the same thing may happen this year.
Regarding the tents in the ports of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, the Minister pointed out that there is no date for their installation.
