The Sociedad Democracia hosts a tribute to Enrique Pérez Parrilla

His widow, Nieves Rosa Hernández, received diplomas and medals commemorating the political and scientific work of the former president of the Cabildo, deputy and mayor of Arrecife

The Sociedad Democracia of Arrecife hosted this Wednesday a posthumous tribute to the former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and mayor of Arrecife, Enrique Pérez Parrilla, within the commemorative days of the Lanzarote scientist Blas Cabrera Felipe. 

The event was attended by Pérez Parrilla's widow, Nieves Rosa Hernández Gorrín, and his children Enrique Pérez Coll, Eduardo Pérez Coll, Alicia Pérez Hernández, Jorge and Alberto Guevara Hernández.

The president of the various associations organizing the event, Alfonso Licata, was in charge of delivering the tribute speech to Enrique Pérez Parrilla, highlighting the great friendship he had towards Italians. "Enrique Pérez Parrilla was the promoter of the project to celebrate the seventh centenary of the discovery of Lanzarote, thanks to the Italian navigator from Varazze Lanzarotto Malocello," said Alfonso Licata.

At the end of his brief commemorative speech, Licata presented the widow, Nieves Rosa Hernández Gorrín, with the diploma of Perpetual Honorary Member, awarded by the National Presidency of the Italian Cultural Institution, in memory of Enrique Pérez Parrilla.

Following this, the Italian judge Sabrina Di Sepio donated, on behalf of the International Committee of the VII Centenary of the discovery of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, lthe official commemorative medal of the event, created by the Italian State Polygraphic Institute and which has only 250 copies. 

Subsequently, the professor and director of the Blas Cabrera Felipe Scientific Institute, Enrique Díaz Herrera, took the floor, who underlined the figure and academic contribution of the distinguished deceased professor. At the end of this first session, Nieves Hernandez Gorrin took the floor, who, visibly moved, affectionately thanked the organizers. 

The president of the Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Humanities of Lanzarote (ACIHL), Francisco González de Posada, gave a conference to underline the scientific and political contribution of Enrique Pérez Parrilla in the years in which he governed the island of Lanzarote, holding the position of president of the Cabildo four times. At the end of the exhaustive speech, de Posada presented Nieves Rosa Hernández with an honorary diploma awarded to the deceased for his political and scientific merits.

 

Greetings from Italy 

The event was organized by different associations, such as the Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Humanities of Lanzarote (ACIHL), the Canary Islands Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society and the Promoting Committee of the VII Centenary of the discovery of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands by the Italian navigator Lanzarotto Malocello. In addition, the event was held jointly with the Association of Italian Friends of Lanzarote, who remembered and honored the figure of Enrique Pérez Parrilla.

It should also be noted that various greetings were received from Italy at the commemorative event, such as that of the Italian Ambassador to Spain, Riccardo Guariglia, who sent "his best wishes" to the organizers and participants for the success of the important initiative. 

Other greetings that arrived from Italy were from the president of the Liguria region Giovanni Toti, the vice president Alessandro Piana, the mayor of the city of Varazze, Luigi Pierfederici, the general secretary of the International Committee Lanzarotto Malocello and former mayor of Varazze, Giovanni Delfino.
