The central work of the concert is "La Justa", by the composer Mateo Flecha "el Viejo" (1481-1553), which recreates through music a medieval battle between good and evil. The repertoire will also include other works by Spanish Renaissance authors. The choir will be accompanied by a small orchestral formation of 7 professionals from the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands.

The concert will last 45 minutes and is recommended for people over 14 years of age. Tickets cost €10 and are available on the website www.culturalanzarote.com.

In addition to this concert, the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir Association also plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary with another concert in June. This concert will serve as an additional opportunity to commemorate this important celebration and continue spreading choral music in Lanzarote. More details about this concert will be announced at a later date.

Fifty years of history

The San Ginés Polyphonic Choir was founded in 1973 by Braulio de León, who was its director until 1986. After a period of inactivity due to the death of its director, its members decided to form an association and elect María Piedad del Río Sendino as the new director. Since then, the choir has actively participated in the musical life of Lanzarote and has received recognitions such as the Pancho Lasso Medal from the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the award granted by the Capital City Council for the Bicentennial of the City of Arrecife. Over the years, the choir has had different directors, including Alicia García Uña, José Antonio Elías Roldán Javier Díaz González. Currently, the direction is once again in the hands of Elías Roldán.
