The Mercedes Medina Díaz Association has been developing cultural, educational and ethnographic activities for the island of Lanzarote for nearly 15 years. The new Board of Directors incorporates retired people with outstanding solvency in the educational world.
Carmen Rosa Márquez joins as vice president from a broad experience in directing educational centers and former Minister of Education of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Manuel Betancort replaces Victoria Vázquez as secretary, due to her passing. Manuel has taught in several educational centers in Lanzarote, with his extraordinary curriculum; a supportive and generous person.
Carmen Rosa Barreto is also joining, a former teacher who practiced her long professional career at the now-defunct CEIP Mercedes Medina Díaz. Chus Morientes, social and vital animator, with considerable experience in NGOs and collaborator of the UNED of Lanzarote. José Luis Bermejo, new addition available to the Association, as a former State official.
It is worth noting the activity of the Mercedes Medina Scholarships, which are awarded every year and are aimed at university students from Lanzarote who have a good academic record and who prove a lack of economic resources.
Nearly 100 students have already benefited from these scholarships. Specifically, this academic year, two AMMD scholarship recipients are graduating in Medicine. The AMMD also has other specific support in education and reinforces administrative services with the incorporation of Almudena Pintos.
This new configuration of the Board of Directors continues to support its collaboration with all Administrations in educational and cultural matters, both at its headquarters on Calle Manolo Millares No. 84, and through its official page, in addition to strengthening all its specific activities, seeking a cultural space in Lanzarote and the rest of the Canary Islands.
