The Máguez Nature Classroom, in collaboration with the Asperger Islas Canarias Association (ASPERCAN), will adapt its educational-environmental activity 'Educational Trails' for students with Asperger's Syndrome or with some Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from the educational centers of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

This didactic resource, designed in digital format, consists of a set of 14 educational trails, each incorporating a map and a sequence of pictograms based on the augmentative and alternative communication system ARASAAC, "which guide students through the different actions that take place during the trail, in addition to facilitating the identification of the most significant elements of our natural and cultural heritage," explained the counselor of the Nature Classroom and Environment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jorge Peñas.

With this action, "teachers will be able to plan in advance the school day of the trail, indicating the activities, using techniques to structure the work areas and establishing stable and functional routines, with the frequent use of visual aids, to achieve the student's interest, as well as their social interaction", added Peñas.

For this, we have counted on the graphic designer and illustrator Teresa Menzel, with extensive experience in the development of pictograms to facilitate accessibility for people with ASD.

The 14 trails are available to teachers of educational centers and families through the website of the Máguez Nature Classroom. Also, the deadline to request the activity 'Educational Trails' by the centers will be open until October 16, through the aforementioned website.
