Visit of the Kings to La Palma

The King and Queen are already in La Palma, where they have begun their visit by meeting with some of those evacuated by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano at the El Fuerte Barracks, in Breña Baja.

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia arrived around 12 noon and had the opportunity to chat with some of the people who remain housed in these facilities and inquire about their particular cases.

The King and Queen approached some of them, mainly elderly people with reduced mobility. One of them, an old man, did not initially recognize the monarch, who briefly removed his mask so that he could see that it was the King and that the person accompanying him was Queen Letizia.

Alongside the King and Queen are also the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the President of the Cabildo of La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata.

The King and Queen also plan to take advantage of their visit to the El Fuerte Barracks to speak with representatives of the various security forces and services that are participating in the emergency and evacuation efforts following the eruption of the volcano, such as the Army, the Civil Guard, the National Police, and the Local Police, as well as the Canary Islands Health Service or the Red Cross, to whom they will convey their gratitude for the work they are doing.

From there, they will move to the Cabildo headquarters to attend the daily meeting of the Steering Committee of the Special Civil Protection and Emergency Attention Plan for Volcanic Risk (PEVOLCA), and later they will go to the advanced command post of the entire emergency operation, located in the mountains and closer to the eruption zone.
