The Islote de Fermina opened its doors this Saturday to the first Lanzarote residents who came to enjoy the concerts organized in this space on the occasion of the San Ginés festivities.

"How nice to see how the residents of Arrecife and other parts of Lanzarote enjoy such an emblematic place. I feel tremendously proud that after more than 50 years, citizens can enjoy this space," said the mayor, Ástrid Pérez, on her Facebook account.

The Islote has been closed to the public for decades and the first investment that was carried out was never inaugurated, so the space deteriorated without being opened. Later, a new rehabilitation project reconditioned the area, but until now it was still not enjoyed by the residents.

Last month, the mayor announced that the opening would take place on the last weekend of July, although the deadline was not met. Now, on the occasion of the San Ginés festivities, concerts have been organized on the Islote, where the music has sounded strongly this Saturday.

From 12 to 8 p.m. a "vermouth session" has been held with DJs, musical groups and batucada. The first session has taken place from 12 to 3 p.m., with the performance of The Piri Expirience (Lanzarote), Los Mejillosnes Tigre (Jaén) and Karlos Mk (Lanzarote); and the second from 5 to 8 p.m., with Karlos Mk (Lanzarote), Kardomillo (Lanzarote) and System Vibes (Tenerife).
