The General Directorate of Emergencies has decreed several pre-alerts for bad weather for this Monday, August 19, throughout the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
To the haze and heat have been added the warnings for coastal phenomena and storms. As for the sea, there will be rough seas with northeast wind force 4 to 5 and even with large areas with force 6. On the other hand, the Government has decreed the pre-alert for storm risks that will begin at 9:00 p.m. this Monday. As explained by the General Directorate, "the interaction of a sub-Saharan depression with an east wave to the south-southeast of the Canary Islands generates instability in the islands and an increase in humidity that could lead to storms. Strong storms are possible, which could be accompanied by scattered and occasional showers.
The wind is blowing strongly in Lanzarote, with gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour. Also the haze has made an important presence from the first hour of the morning, becoming more intense from noon where it has affected the airport of Lanzarote, even paralyzing its operation.
Regarding the heat, it is likely that 34 ºC will be reached locally in areas of the interior-south of the island.
