The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared a situation of pre-alert for risk of coastal flooding in several islands of the archipelago, including Lanzarote. This measure, which will come into effect from 12:00 on Monday, March 17, has been taken based on the predictions of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Care for Flood Risk (PEINCA).

In Lanzarote, the risk mainly affects the north and west coast, where wave surges are expected that could flood bathing areas, boardwalks and roads near the coast during high tides. The phenomenon will be concentrated in a period of four hours around the high tide peaks:

Monday, March 17: High tide between 14:35 and 15:15 hours.

Tuesday, March 18: High tides between 02:50 and 03:30 hours, and between 15:05 and 15:45 hours.

The authorities recommend that the population avoid approaching coastal areas during these periods, especially in areas exposed to waves, and exercise extreme caution on boardwalks and roads near the sea.

This pre-alert also affects other islands such as La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, where similar conditions are expected. The Government of the Canary Islands will keep the surveillance and coordination protocols activated with the emergency services to guarantee the safety of the population.

Citizens are reminded to follow the recommendations of the authorities and stay informed through official channels in the event of any change in the situation.
