The chambermaids of the Be Live Experience Lanzarote Hotel have ratified the pre-agreement reached between CCOO and the company Genser and have called off the 48-hour strike that they were going to carry out within the mobilizations that began two weeks ago. "Now we have to follow up and see that it is fulfilled, which is going to be complicated," said Francisco Martínez León, secretary of Trade Union Action of CCOO Lanzarote.

According to Martínez, the workers held an assembly at 7:30 a.m. this Thursday, in which they decided "unanimously" to approve the pre-agreement and suspend the strike. Subsequently, at 11 a.m., CCOO held an assembly of delegates to report on it.

Now, however, CCOO is awaiting the signature. And, since Genser does not have representatives on the island, company executives have to travel from Madrid and Tenerife. "But it is ratified, confirmed and going forward," said the secretary of Trade Union Action of CCOO Lanzarote, who pointed out that this signature could take place on Monday.

"We are very happy, because it was our proposal, it was the objective. We were willing to go on a 48-hour strike, the last strike had 100% follow-up and the company I think saw that it was a strategic day of occupation, because we were talking about 60 customer entries that were going to be left on the street," said Francisco Martínez in relation to this Thursday, which is when the strike was going to begin. "The company pushed until the last minute, but a pre-agreement was signed late in the afternoon this Wednesday,"

Details of the agreement

As CCOO already reported, this agreement consists of the implementation of a points system that values in a weighted manner the different workloads in the housekeeping department: guest room, reviews and departures. "This produces a reduction of between 8 and 10 rooms per day per worker, with a limit of four maximum departures," explains the union.

However, a "negotiating table will be opened to establish real times and adjust the workloads of each room according to the different tasks performed in the department." Likewise, the valet staff (room waiters) will be expanded, "which will benefit the reduction of workloads" and "the stability of employment will be improved with the conversion of temporary contracts into permanent contracts in the housekeeping staff".
