A team from the television program '¡Qué animal!' has moved to the coasts of Lanzarote to set one of its episodes there, which will be about the life of cetaceans.

Evelyn Segura, biologist and presenter of the production, told La Voz that the chapter will focus on "showing how these animals develop their daily lives, the social structures they follow, how different they are from others or their multiple capabilities, such as diving to great depths."

The beaches of El Golfo, Famara, Papagayo, Puerto Calero or Caletón Blanco will be the areas that will be shown in this work, "in addition to trips to the open sea, which we have made to be able to observe cetaceans as closely as possible."

Lanzarote, home for cetaceans

Segura explains that this episode focuses on two main objectives: "To publicize the diversity that exists in this species and promote good sighting of these animals."

The professional details that many boats are dedicated to making routes to visualize cetaceans, "but they must be done well, following the existing approach protocol, because, for example, the noises we can generate bother them a lot."

The program will also delve into the family of beaked whales, a species very present in the waters of Lanzarote.

"Beaked whales are very difficult to see and very unknown by scientists, because they spend most of their time at great depths. Lanzarote has six different types of this category," says Segura.

Likewise, space has also been dedicated to dolphins and orcas, "and we will discuss the strategies they have followed throughout history to survive in the aquatic environment."

Emission

The chapter filmed in Lanzarote will be broadcast on December 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. on La 2 de Televisión Española, and can also be seen on the RTVE website.

This will be the penultimate episode of the seventh season of '¡Qué animal!' and with it, the island repeats its presence in the production: two years ago the team was already here to talk about how plastics affect marine life.
