The Lanzarote Council has opened a preliminary investigation file to "gather all the information" about the controversial video of the influencer Luna Zacharias, in which she was seen making a fire on the beach of San Juan, in a commercial spot for a soft drink brand.

"We are looking at the authorizations they had and the licenses, and we have contacted the distributor, the production company, and the actors. Once we have all the information, we will make the decision whether or not to initiate a sanctioning procedure," says Councilor Ariagona González.

However, the councilor anticipates that even if they had permits to make the advertisement, none of them "allows making fire". "To carry out this type of activity, they have to ask for a permit from the Lanzarote Council, which is granted with a series of conditions, and one of them is that you cannot make a fire," she clarifies.

Ariagona González emphasizes that they are waiting to gather all the information to make a statement about it. In addition, she hopes that the Corporation can resolve it "as soon as possible", although she acknowledges that it is a procedure that can take time.

"We have to ask for all that information, and I hope that in no case will it have to be requested in writing, but voluntarily. In case it cannot be done, other procedures will have to be opened," the councilor points out.

"We are noticing a problem of environmental awareness in citizens"

The councilor expresses concern about what she considers a "lack of environmental education" in some citizens when carrying out activities that are not allowed in protected spaces.

"We are noticing a problem of environmental awareness in citizens, of activities that are not allowed and that there is a lack of environmental education, since viralizing this type of videos gives to understand a series of things that cannot be done," she says.

In addition, she points out that it is not the only case they are investigating. "It also happens to us with what happened in Jameos del Agua or in the Charco de los Clicos," adds González, referring to cases in which people have been seen bathing in both emblematic places of Lanzarote, with the environmental attack that this entails.

"From the Cabildo we have to launch an awareness campaign, although I believe that citizens are quite aware of what can and cannot be done, but not those who visit us, and especially if they visit us with videos of activities that are not allowed. The quality that Lanzarote has must be maintained and preserved," concludes the councilor.
