The Cabildo of Lanzarote proceeded this Friday afternoon to raise the flag of the Red Cross on the occasion of the celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, in commemoration of the birth of its founder, Henry Dunant.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, excused her absence, but not before expressing her gratitude to the Red Cross “for the commendable work it has been doing and that has made it a worldwide reference.”
The second vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marcos Bergaz, attended the event, together with the president of the Lanzarote Red Cross, Tamar Luis Placeres, as well as a large part of the volunteers, who raised the flag in front of the main headquarters of the public institution.

Bergaz pointed out that “more than a gesture, the raising of the flag represents recognition of an institution that symbolizes hope, solidarity and help, as it has demonstrated so many times throughout its history.”
For her part, Tamar Placeres, stated that among the objectives of this day “is to highlight the dedication and effort of the volunteers and staff of the entity.”
With this symbolic act, the Red Cross flag is now flying in all the municipalities of the island, with the Cabildo being the last stop of this day.
