The Arrecife Platform against Noise has stated in a statement "its concern and discomfort" regarding the celebration last weekend of the Arrecife Summer Fest festival on El Reducto beach, in the heart of a residential environment.
According to them, "the event generated an acoustic load far exceeding the levels allowed by the Municipal Ordinance for the Protection of the Urban Environment of 2017, seriously affecting the well-being of the residents of the area. The affected homes suffered continuous levels of noise and vibrations for hours, violating safety and the right to health and rest."
The Platform considers it "especially serious that this type of event continues to be organized without effective acoustic control or consideration for the urban environment, and we recall that there are viable and respectful alternatives for carrying out cultural activities without compromising citizen coexistence."
Likewise, they regret that "this type of initiative, financed with public funds, prioritizes partisan and media impact over respect for the neighborhood, in a clear demonstration of disinterest in the consequences that this type of celebration has in residential areas."
Therefore, they demand that the Arrecife City Council "the urgent revision of the location of musical events, outside of residential areas, with special care to beaches and natural environments, and the strict compliance with the noise limits established in the regulations that, despite our repeated request in writing and in the Plenary, the City Council continues to violate its own regulations.
Also "greater transparency in the use of public funds allocated to outdoor shows and cultural planning that reconciles leisure with respect for rest and neighborhood health.
