The 36 new cases of Covid-19 reported this Wednesday in Lanzarote have once again placed the island's incidence at "high risk", which has not happened since the third wave was overcome after last Christmas. Specifically, the one that is already in the red is the 7-day indicator, while the 14-day indicator remains at "medium risk", although rising more and more. This Wednesday it stood at 128.36 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and high risk is established from 150. As for the 7-day incidence, in Lanzarote it is at 84.72, and high risk is entered from 75.
In addition, in the case of Arrecife, the incidence has skyrocketed again to the maximum risk level, with 128.39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days. The capital was already at high risk but has escalated to very high risk after the new positives reported on Wednesday.
In total, Arrecife concentrates 20 of those 36 positives, and the rest are distributed practically throughout all the municipalities of the island, with the exception of Tinajo. The one that added the most cases in the last day behind the capital was Teguise, with 7 positives, which is more than double the number it had accumulated throughout the week. In fact, this municipality had until Tuesday the lowest incidence on the island in relation to its population, and has now become the third, with 44.05 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days.
The next municipality that added the most cases this Wednesday was Tías, with 3, followed by Yaiza and San Bartolomé, with two each, and Haría with one. As for the other positive reported in the past day, the detailed report from the Ministry of Health does not assign it to any municipality, so it could correspond to a tourist.
The level of risk by municipalities
The latest data leaves only Haría and Tinajo at low risk in the cumulative incidence at 7 days, while Teguise, Yaiza and Tías are at medium risk. For its part, San Bartolomé continues at high risk and with a higher incidence than the previous day (94.25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), while Arrecife is at very high risk.
A good part of the increase in cases that Lanzarote has registered is due to the outbreak detected in a gym in the capital, which this Thursday already has 61 affected. However, although that outbreak has been decisive in triggering the incidence in the capital and throughout the island, it does not explain all the increase by itself.
According to the Ministry of Health, 7 cases had been added to that outbreak on Tuesday, but a total of 36 positives were diagnosed, when less than ten daily had been reported the previous week. As for the past day, another two cases have been added to the gym outbreak, and the total number of cases detected is pending, which the Ministry of Health updates each day around 3:00 p.m.
