The residents of the town of La Asomada will celebrate their festivities in honor of their patron saint San José Obrero, which will take place from this Friday until May 1. For this, they have prepared a varied program of events for the enjoyment of all those who want to participate in it.
This Friday, the festivities will begin at 8:30 p.m. with the reading of the proclamation by the neighbor Teodoro Camacho Hernández. After several attempts, the organizers have managed to get him to accept the invitation to become the town crier for this year 2014.
Teodoro Camacho told the listeners of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Wednesday some details of the reading of the proclamation. The town crier was born in the town of La Asomada in 1954, into a very large family, made up of 12 siblings, eight men and four women, being the fifth in the line of succession.
Camacho recounted the change that has occurred in his town since he was a child, he said that he began attending the one-room school at the age of 6 and at 11 he left his studies and came to work in a welding shop in Puerto de Naos to help the family economy.
He also said that before all the neighbors were involved and participated much more than now and recalled how with the help of the neighborhood the construction of the church and the socio-cultural center was carried out.
In the early 70s, the image of San José Obrero arrived in the town, since previously religious events were held in the hermitage of Tegoyo or in the neighboring town of Mácher. For Teodoro Camacho, being the town crier of the town where he was born is the best gift in this year in which he has just turned 60 years old and, without a doubt, the neighbors and friends will see themselves reflected in some of the paragraphs of his proclamation.
