This Sunday, August 10, Lanzarote will experience one of the most extreme days of the summer in terms of weather conditions. To the high temperatures forecast by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which have led to a red warning for heat, is now added the pre-alert declared by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands due to the presence of intense haze.

According to the warning, the suspended dust will directly affect Lanzarote, with concentrations that may reach up to 200 µg/m³, especially at surface level. This situation will significantly reduce visibility and could have negative effects on health, especially among people with respiratory diseases, chronic ailments, the elderly and children.

In parallel, temperatures will continue to rise. Up to 40 degrees are expected in inland areas of the island, which represents a significant risk for the population if adequate precautions are not taken. The wind will blow weak from the northeast on the coasts, but in more inland areas strong southeast winds could be recorded during the early morning.

Authorities recommend avoiding outdoor activities in the central hours of the day, hydrating frequently, closing doors and windows to prevent dust from entering, and not making unnecessary physical efforts.

The situation is being monitored at all times by the emergency services of the Government of the Canary Islands, which maintain the pre-alert in Lanzarote as part of the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
