The Yaiza City Council lifted this Wednesday morning the restriction that prohibited bathing at the small beach of Playa Blanca since last Friday due to risk of microbiological contamination. This is confirmed by the Councilor for Beaches of Yaiza, Beatriz Vázquez. The administration makes the decision after learning of the latest report from Public Health with laboratory results declaring that its waters are once again suitable for bathing.
The southern council has thanked citizens for their collaboration and understanding during the period of temporary and preventive closure and informs that in successive days "new tests will be carried out to continue monitoring the state of water quality."
The closure occurred as a consequence of a wastewater spill caused by a blockage in a manhole of the sanitation network located in the Parque del Mediterráneo which reached the vicinity of the beach.
This is not the first time that the temporary closure of this beach has been recorded; it also happened in February. At that time, Public Health detected contamination with high microbiological values of intestinal enterococci. In addition, last April, the temporary closure of Playa Dorada, also in the municipality of Yaiza, was also decreed.
