That restriction was lifted in May, but the Government has decided to reapply it due to the "worrying" data on infections in that country

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Monday that Spain will require a negative PCR or complete vaccination for all citizens coming from the United Kingdom to the country. The measure will begin to be applied within 72 hours.

Sánchez has justified the measure by the fact that the data coming from the United Kingdom is worrying because they have infections "well above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days."

In this sense, he said that it is necessary to make the decision to apply additional measures in Spain and specified that he is announcing it so that tour operators take it into account.

Spain had previously decided to eliminate the requirement for Britons to present a negative PCR test as of May 20. For its part, the United Kingdom lifted the veto last week to travel to the Balearic Islands without the need to quarantine upon their return, and the Canary Islands are waiting to reduce their infection figures to achieve the same. However, now a PCR will be required in any case for Britons to enter.

In the case of this archipelago, a test is already required to travel to the islands, but both the PCR and the antigen test are valid, although national regulations will now prevail.
