Residents of Güime protested this Tuesday against the possible installation of a migrant center in the El Polvorín area. The citizens, together with some members of parties such as the PP, Vox and CC, gathered around 6:00 p.m. in the area to show their rejection.
This concentration was promoted by the residents of the town after learning that some tests had been carried out to install a CATE (Temporary Migrant Care Center). Tests that were stopped by the San Bartolomé City Council, as explained by the mayor, Isidro Pérez, in an interview for Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. "I am transparent, I have already said that the center will not be built in Güime".
The PP supports the demonstration of the residents of Güime
Around twenty affiliates and public officials came this Tuesday to the demonstration to accompany the residents of Güime and show their "rejection" of the construction of a center on the land of El Polvorín, in San Bartolomé. Among the politicians who attended were the island secretary and vice president of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, the deputy mayor of Teguise, Rita Hernandez, as well as the municipal spokesperson, Jeziel Martín, and the councilor of San Bartolomé, Sergio Tejera.
The Populars wanted to highlight the "prominence and commitment of the residents of the town, who have not hesitated to take to the streets and show the concern that exists regarding the State Government's intention to build a center on their property." In addition, the Popular Party has recognized that it is "against locating the arrived migrants anywhere" and regrets that the "mayor turned his back on the residents in their demand and did not attend the neighborhood meeting."
"We must not politicize human dramas such as immigration"
Isidro Pérez makes clear the position of the Corporation regarding the controversy that has arisen. "We must be coherent and not politicize human dramas such as immigration", also alluding to the participation of some parties in the demonstration. "We have to put forward alternatives, to see if we step aside or face the problem," says Pérez.
"All political parties except Vox have requested decent resources for the care of migrants," the mayor criticized.
