The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, decreed this Wednesday the pre-alert for coastal phenomena throughout the archipelago starting at 07:00 hours today, Thursday.

The northeast wind can reach gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in Lanzarote, especially in the southern half of the island. This is generating a strong swell that is being noticed on the beaches of Playa Honda and La Garita beach where the red flag is flying.

That is why bathing is totally prohibited in these areas, as the waves can reach 2 meters in height.

Given the worsening of the sea state and in order to avoid risks, it is advisable to postpone nautical or sports activities and not to bathe on secluded or unguarded beaches.

In order not to put yourself in a dangerous situation, it is vitally important not to be on docks and breakwaters, or to remain in places near the sea where you can be hit or dragged by the waves.

In the event of any emergency, it is vitally important to immediately alert 112 to request help.
