The president of the Red Cross in Lanzarote, Tamar Luis, has responded to the criticisms launched by another association, Caminando Fronteras, and has denied that the rights of immigrants are being violated in the reception centers. "What they are denouncing does not stick to reality, but paper can handle anything. Behind this criticism and these denunciations there are other purposes", she has warned.

Along with a statement, Caminando Fronteras also released a video with testimonies from immigrants, one of them from a center in Lanzarote, who among other things claimed that they only have one bathroom for more than a hundred people and that they only have running water in the shower.

"The images that come out were an accidental mishap. There was a destruction by one of the users in a bathroom, but it has already been repaired," Tamar Luis said, also referring to the dirt in the bathroom that was denounced in the video.

"The hostel has three bathrooms with showers each and men and women have been separated", the president of the Red Cross defended, thus denying the accusations.

Regarding the complaints that they do not receive clothes and have to take them "from the garbage", she has also denied it. "They are always given clothes," she said, stressing that there is also a laundry service, as well as a catering service that brings the food.

"They have the services covered. They have three daily meals and also have infusions and cookies during the day," she stressed.

Regarding another of the criticisms, relating to the fact that the center lacks Wifi to be able to contact their relatives through the Internet, the president of the Red Cross has indicated that she "understands" that need, because she puts herself "in their place, of wanting to contact their family and tell them that they are well", but she also considers that we must "be aware of the reality in which we live".
