The latest tides have taken away a large amount of sand from the beaches of Puerto del Carmen, especially from Playa Grande. "Playa Grande is in terrible condition," said the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where he pointed out that although sand is lost "every year", "it has been a long time" since so much has been lost.

And, as he specified, there are areas of this beach, especially near the Hotel Fariones, where the sea has taken away "around 1.10-1.20 meters of sand." "It has affected all of them, but the worst is La Grande and I don't know if it will recover easily," Cruz said.

Regarding the rest of the beaches, the mayor detailed that "Playa Chica is the least affected" and that "the second is the one below the hotel." Los Pocillos and Matagorda have also lost sand, although "they are better" than Playa Grande. "And below the airport, the jable got into the promenade," he added.

In this regard, Cruz stated that the City Council is doing "a topographic survey and a video" and that "the technicians are preparing reports" to send them to the General Directorate of Coasts. "Because this is not a maintenance, an authorization that we are requesting, but a study must be done," he concluded.
