Pre-alert for waves declared in Lanzarote for this Tuesday

Combined sea waves are expected to reach between two and a half and four meters in height

The Emergency Department of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert situation for waves in Lanzarote and the rest of the Archipelago starting this Tuesday morning.

Based on the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency, and other available sources, the regional Executive foresees that the poor sea conditions will especially affect the north and west coasts of Lanzarote. Therefore, it decides to apply the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

In this line, combined sea waves are expected to reach between two and a half and four meters in height.

Thus, in general in the Canary Islands the wind will also be a protagonist with force six and seven, between 39 and 61 kilometers per hour) and force eight, between 62 and 74 kilometers per hour. While in Lanzarote it will be between 20 and 35 kilometers per hour.

It is recommended to avoid walking along the island's coastline, as well as accessing rocky areas
