Playa Honda hosted this Saturday morning a rescue simulation on the beach, adapted to the Covid situation. This exercise was organized by the Red Cross and the City Council of San Bartolomé, also counting with the participation of the Local Police and Civil Protection of the municipality.
The simulation started at about 09:30 hours, when a user was doing sports in a kayak and suddenly began to make signals to land. A bather who saw him jumped into the water to help him, but got tired along the way. Meanwhile, the lifeguard on duty, who was noticing what was happening, activated the appropriate protocols calling the COA and went to the rescue.
The Coordination Center contacted the rescue and beach coordinator and notified the situation to a boat to support the rescue, also activating a basic life support ambulance.
However, when taking the kayak user ashore, they realized that he was in cardiorespiratory arrest, so the advanced life support ambulance and the relevant protocol were activated according to the new Covid-19 regulations.
On the other hand, a second exercise was carried out on Playa del Cura. In it, a user was distracted with his inflatable mattress and the current took him out to sea. The lifeguard reported what happened and the rescue of this user was carried out with a boat. During the rescue, they realized that the user could have symptoms compatible with Covid-19 and was transferred to the base in Playa de Guacimeta, activating the established protocol.
The simulation involved beach lifeguard personnel, Red Cross volunteers, a rescue boat, a basic life support ambulance and an advanced life support ambulance, Civil Protection volunteers from San Bartolomé and Local Police officers.
