The memorialist and Lanzarote teacher Óscar Torres Perdomo has passed away in Arrecife at the age of 71 after battling a long illness.
Torres was born in Máguez in 1954 and has been one of the most important disseminators of the island's culture, traditions, and history through the creation of various digital platforms such as Historia de La Graciosa, Historia de Yaiza, or Carnaval de Arrecife.
In fact, Torres was in charge of the Gran Archivo del Carnaval, a website that collects hundreds of photographs, videos, and texts from Memoria Digital Lanzarote and which is developed by the Data Center. Thus, he was also the creator of the website for the Parranda Marinera de Buches in his continuous contribution to improving the dissemination of the island's traditions.Furthermore, he dedicated his entire life to teaching, serving as a teacher at the Capellanía del Yágabo school, where he spent his life doing what he loved most: spreading knowledge.Likewise, Óscar Torres was a councilor for the Canary Islands Socialist Party (PSC) in Arrecife, a position he left in December 2006This past October, the Arrecife City Council honored him by creating a small square in the capital with the aim of immortalizing the life and legacy of the chronicler who turned popular memory into shared heritageOn the other hand, throughout his life, he received various recognitions for his great work. He was awarded the Canary Islands Chroniclers' Board Prize for his dissemination and research work and the **Haría Prize 2021**. Additionally, he was the pregonero (town crier) for the Arrecife Carnival in 2022
