Lanzarote will commemorate Canary Islands Day, which is celebrated next Monday, May 30, with various activities. Music and sports will be the main protagonists of this festive day.

Thus, the Orchestra of Timples of the Canary Islands, led and directed by Benito Cabrera, will offer this Friday, May 27, at 9:00 p.m., a performance at the Teatro Cine Atlántida in Arrecife. The group will bring to the island its show "Timpluras", which was precisely conceived during the institutional act of Canary Islands Day last year.

The Orchestra of Timples of the Canary Islands is a musical formation that has the instrument par excellence of Canarian folklore as its central axis, and in which different timples with various sizes and sounds are grouped. The Orchestra is made up of students from three of the best timplistas in the archipelago, such as Benito Cabrera himself, Domingo González "El Colorao", and the late José Antonio Ramos.

In the case of the musicians who will perform on Friday in Lanzarote, the timplistas will be Yone Rodríguez (Gran Canaria), Víctor Estárico (Fuerteventura), Francisco Yanes, Tomas Miguel Fariña, José Alberto Delgado, Israel Espino and Eutimio Álvarez (Tenerife) and as director Benito Cabrera (Lanzarote).

In addition, they will be accompanied by a band of musicians formed by Ykay Ledezma (guitar), Sergio García (percussion), Guillermo Chávez (bass) and Jeremías Martín (piano and accordion).

The repertoire will be composed of Canarian root music with a treatment that ranges between chamber music and more modern trends such as jazz.

Admission to the institutional act and this concert, organized by the Education and Culture area of the Cabildo, is free, but due to capacity limitations it is necessary to withdraw an invitation in advance. Invitations can be collected at the CIC El Almacén from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Sport

The program of Canary Islands Day in Lanzarote also includes the celebration of the Canary Islands Regional Bowls Championship "Canary Islands Day". The competition will take place on May 29 and 30, starting at 9 a.m., at the Puerto Calero facilities, with the participation of teams from different parts of the Archipelago.

Likewise, the capital of Lanzarote will host, from May 26 to 30, the Week on the Sea and Fishing in Arrecife, which will take place in the Casa del Miedo and surroundings. It will feature exhibitions, children's workshops, performances by parrandas and other activities.

Uga

Uga will also be one of the towns that will celebrate this day, with a series of events that will take place in the traditional market. Thus, at 11 a.m., the day will begin with an exhibition by the students of the Municipal School of Canarian Wrestling. Later, at 12 noon, the chamber quartet of the Municipal Band of Yaiza will perform, which will interpret the anthem of the Canary Islands and a wide and select repertoire.

Likewise, the celebration of Canary Islands Day in Uga will coincide with the IV San Isidro Labrador livestock show.
