With a lot of participation and animation, the residents of the town of Tahíche toured the main streets of the town.
At 6:00 p.m. last Saturday, the pilgrimage departed from the vicinity of the church, led by the Third Age musical group Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Teguise, infecting the attendees with their songs. Behind them, hundreds of pilgrims dressed in typical costumes also joined their voices.
The festive delegation this year had a total of 10 carts decorated for the occasion, as is traditional with palm leaves and bougainvillea, carts pulled by donkeys where the pilgrims carried all the non-perishable products for the offering. Throughout the tour, popular and traditional Canarian songs were heard by various musical groups such as Los Curbelos, Amigos de Coros y Danzas de Arrecife, the folk groups La Aldea de San Nicolás from Gran Canaria and Guagime from Tahíche.
As tradition dictates in the Tahíche pilgrimage, the pilgrims share and invite all participants with the rich food prepared for the occasion, complemented with a great variety of homemade desserts washed down with good wines and liquors. A temptation that no one can resist.
This year and for the first time, the image of Santiago Apóstol awaited the pilgrims in the central square in front of the Socio-Cultural Center where each one was depositing their offering consisting of non-perishable products which were delivered to Cáritas Parroquiales de Teguise to distribute them among the most needy families in the municipality.
Before the end of the pilgrimage, the election of the Main Pilgrim took place, a title that fell to Mercedes Caraballo Valdivia, and the Main Pilgrim was Caleb Tenorio Cruz. Next, the Pilgrim's Dance was held on the courts of the Santiago El Mayor Socio-Cultural Center, enlivened by the Parranda Pal Porrón.
