The Royal Gendarmerie of Morocco was part of the mixed patrol that supervised the attention at the foot of the beach of the 64 migrants, including a pregnant woman, and three other women and a child, who arrived at La Garita beach in Arrieta during the morning of this Wednesday.

As confirmed to La Voz by the Government of Spain Delegation in the Canary Islands, the two Moroccan Gendarmerie officers are part of the mixed patrol, formed by the Alawi police and the Spanish Civil Guard, which alternately controls the Spanish and Moroccan borders.

This collaboration stems from the integration of the gendarmes into the Civil Guard's devices, in this case in the Border patrol. According to this same source, when the Moroccan gendarmes are in Spain, they accompany the patrols of the Benemérita as reinforcement and "for this type of situation." However, their presence is not usual in the disembarkations that occur in Lanzarote.

Delegation has added that the Moroccan patrols come to the Canary border for a week and the agents of the Canarian Benemérita go back for a week "for many years." In the same line, the insular director of the Government of Spain in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, says that the presence of the gendarmes of Morocco is due to "a program that has been done for many years."
