Mick Gonnel, a French artist based in Lanzarote, passed away this past May 12 at the age of 66, as communicated by one of his friends to La Voz.

The artist lived in Teguise, where he had his house-studio and created his works "full of irony in the back of the maretas". Gonnel always lived surrounded by his art in his studio, which was always open to the public.

An uncommon artist, his sculptures were made from recycled materials and his environment defines him as "a unique underground artist".

Neighbors and friends deeply regret his loss. His friend and landlady rented him her home for more than 40 years, which forged great affection between them.
