Maritime Rescue responds to a distress call from a dinghy near Lanzarote

The first estimates put at around fifty the people who were sailing in this precarious vessel

The Salvamar Al Nair of Maritime Rescue responded on Sunday night to the distress call from the occupants of a dinghy sailing near the north of Lanzarote.

According to the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, the call was intercepted through the repeater of the Mirador del Río, in Haría.

Civil Guard agents and Maritime Rescue sailors had been trying to locate the vessel since 6:45 PM.

Finally, it was located by the Salvamar Al Nair and transferred to the Port of Arrecife, around 12:45 AM. Initial estimates put the number of people sailing in this precarious vessel at around fifty.
