Maritime Rescue intercepts a boat with 53 migrants bound for Lanzarote

The boat was spotted by a merchant ship en route, after being rescued the members will be transferred to the Arrecife dock at approximately 6:30 p.m. this Tuesday.

The Guardamar Polimnia of Maritime Rescue has rescued "in international waters" a group of 53 migrants who were traveling in a small boat almost 50 kilometers north of Lanzarote.

The precarious vessel was intercepted at approximately 4:10 p.m. this Tuesday, according to the Emergency Coordinating Center (CECOES).

Of the 53 crew members, two of them were women and three were minors, the remaining 48 men. All of Maghrebi origin. According to CECOES, in a matter of two hours, around 6:30 p.m., the members of the boat will be transferred to the port of Arrecife.

In addition, as reported to EFE by a spokesman for the public company, the boat was spotted by a merchant ship en route, which warned Maritime Rescue of its presence.
