It seems that the "nightmare" experienced by little Mateo Domínguez, 21 months old, and his parents is coming to an end. The Canary Islander who had to be urgently evacuated from Indonesia to Barcelona after being diagnosed with a rare disease has already been discharged from the hospital where he was admitted and is at home recovered "almost 100%", as his father Iván Domínguez pointed out. The minor has been diagnosed with autoimmune hemolytic anemia due to Donath-Landsteiner biphasic hemolysin, a rare disease that causes his immune system to destroy red blood cells when he suffers an infection.
Domínguez only had words of gratitude for all the people who have helped him during this last complicated month, from the anonymous citizens who collaborated with donations to the public administrations. Among all the people, he highlighted the Spanish ambassador to Indonesia, Francisco Aguilera; the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, who visited them in the hospital in Bali where the little one was admitted and expedited all the procedures for repatriation; and the head of the Health portfolio, the Canarian Carolina Darias, who went to the health center in Catalonia to inquire about Mateo's state of health and gave him a gift.
The parent assured: "It seems that everything was a nightmare from which we are going to have a happy ending." Domínguez indicated that the child is "much better" already in his home in Barcelona, with his maternal grandparents, for a week. "He is already recovered almost one hundred percent, recovering the weight he lost when he was more critical, when he did not eat and was based on serum," he declared. Once the disease was diagnosed, the family pointed out that Mateo will be able to grow "like any other child." "The good part is that once the acute episode has passed, which if you don't arrive in time the worst can happen and you need a blood transfusion yes or yes -the little one received seven-; Mateo has a spontaneous recovery and practically nothing has happened here," he explained.
